June 23, 2007;  Our daughter Casey, gets married in our back yard.

May 20, 2007:  In-laws Mike and Karrie Ogle get married, and I take the photos.

January 12-14, 2007:  We enjoy a mini-vacation in Laughlin, NV with friends Jerry and Edna.

January 15, 2007:  How about a sub-freezing temperature of 19.9 in Roseville?  Very cold!

The following section features past write-ups from the the year 2007:

December 27, 2007:  Back to reality as I remove outside Christmas decorations and Sharlene removes the decorations from the inside of the house.  Well, at least we don't have to worry about if for another year!  Enjoy the restaurant experience that we enjoyed at Paul's Place, during our visit to Merced.

December 24 to 26, 2007:  We spend a wonderful Christmas at my brother's place in Merced, California.

December 23, 2007:  We hold a family Christmas get-together at our house, including a turkey dinner with all the trimmings.  After dinner, gifts were exchanged.

December 18, 2007:  As of 1300, we've received .97" of rain from this storm, for a total of 5.01" of rain this year, still below average.  Work let us off early today, at 0600, to enjoy a delicious Holiday Breakfast with the night crew at Lyon's Restaurant, located on Folsom Blvd., in Sacramento.

December 16, 2007:  Since I had to work, and Sharlene was out of town, I had the house to myself, except for our four cats, so I updated our web pages and watched a bit of NFL football.

December 15, 2007:  Sharlene left to visit her mom and step dad in Fremont, for their Chrismas visit.  Meanwhile, I stayed home, as I had to work the weekend.

December 14, 2007:  My friend David and I did a repeat breakfast at Railroad Cafe, for another meeting of the Sacramento breakfast club.  Read all about it on our home page.

December 7, 2007:  We received 1.52" of rain overnight, which brings Roseville's rainfall up to almost normal for this time of the year.  I took an 8.33 mile walk today, and Sharlene made more soup and chili.

December 6, 2007:  I got off work at 0800, ready to enjoy a 3-day weekend.  Sharlene spent the day, make that... all day, making soup.  She puts the soup in the freezer into small containers, so we'll have soup for the next month or two...

November 26, 2007:  We have an addition to the house, an awesome, covered patio, complete with ceiling fans. How did we live at this place for the last 8 years without this wonderful accessory?

November 24, 2007:  Casey, Tim, Mike and Sharon join us for a wonderful two-days-after Thanksgiving dinner.  I took lots of photos, but due to time restrains, I chose not to publish it on our web site.

November 8, 2007:  Sharlene got her hair done, I took my usual, daily walk, and updated the web page.  Today has been another beautiful day in Roseville, with clear, blue fall skies, brilliant fall foliage, and a high temperature in the low 70's.  Today is the kind of day that I live for.

November 4, 2007:  After setting the clocks back an hour, I took a 6 mile walk, worked on the web page, and watched NFL football.

November 3, 2007:  I relax after working an 80-hour week, and manage to make posole for dinner.  Sharlene and I host a party at our house, fe

November 3, 2007:  I relax after working an 80-hour week, and manage to make posole for dinner.  Sharlene and I host a party at our house, featuring many of her girl friends, and a very special male guest.  Click on this link to revist our dinner party.

November 2, 2007:  I get off work at midnight, to conclude another 80 hour work week.  Yes, that's 40 hours overtime.  Now you know why our web site isn't updated as much as it used to be.  Not to mention that I'm working on my latest Mexican trip on our sister website, ericrench.com.

October 26, 2007:  How's this, a 72 hour work week!  Yes, I worked 72 hours this week, so there's not much to talk about on the web site.

October 20, 2007:  I got up early, took a over 7 mile walk, attended a breakfast session with my buddies, and ended up cooking beer-can chicken for dinner.  Totally, a relaxing, do-nothing Saturday.

October 12, 2007:  Since I'm still on vacation, I spent a wonderful day working around the house, the yard, and cooking a couple of delicious meals.

October 11, 2007:  I got the Camry back from the dealer, with $1500 damage done to my pocketbook, but I have essentially, an 11-year old, brand new car, as it looks and runs like a new car.  Not bad considering that it has over 147-k miles on it.  It and I have a lot in common, although we both have a lot of miles on us, both of us can pass for a much younger product!

October 10, 2007:  Sharlene left for her retirement trip to Disneyland with a few of her girlfriends, leaving me "home alone" for a few days.  She's celebrating retiring, after over 35 years with AT&T!

October 8, 2007:  I returned home from a 10-day visit to beautiful Baja, California, Mexico!

September 14, 2007:  I celebrated this Friday by working a double shift at work, and enjoying some fine Mexican food, from El Parian Taqueria on the way home.  Yummy!

September 8, 2007:  I'm not trying to be boring, but since our girls have grown up and moved out, there is just nothing to write about, as Sharlene and I lead very boring, drama-free, and stress-free lives.

September 3, 2007:  Labor Day, which is a holiday to most was celebrated by Sharlene visiting her mom, and me working at work, keeping the streets of California and Nevada safe when someone decides to call 911..

August 4, 2007:  Tim and Casey went on a camping trip, at a campgound near Lincoln, and Sharlene went over to their place to check on "Sassy," their cat how has recently been de-clawed.  She prepared dinner, using a new recipe for pork chops, which turned out to be delicious.

August 3, 2007:  We had another Sacramento Breakfast Club meeting at Country Gables Café, and later we visited our friend Dan's daugher's boutique that they own.  Sharlene didn't find anything that "spoke" to her, but we did manage to shop at Gottchalk's where I purchased a new ties, some shorts and a couple of shirts.

July 27, 2007:  Sharlene retires from AT&T, with over 35 years of service!  Today is her last day at her "real" work. I'm next, as I just missed retirement by a small margin.  Congratulations to Sharlene!

July 15, 2007:  Another wonderful weekend with no drama, as Sharlene and I enjoy a delicious meal of barbecued pork ribs, potatoes and green salad, and I finally publish the story of Casey's wedding, three weeks ago

July 13, 2007:  I go "hot doggin'" as I eat at two different Roseville hot dog stands, and two Mexican restaurants with the idea to publish my culinary adventures on the web site when I get the chance.

July 5, 2007:  Today was the hottest day of the year, so far, in 2007, with a "low" of 83.4f and a scorching high of 108.8!  The temperature reached 100.0f at 1120, and 102 at noon.  Before I left for work at 1120, I checked out my thermometer and the temperature was still 89.0!  That's hot!

July 4, 2007:  Our holiday consisted of just laying around the house and relaxing, and me grilling some awesome Texas-style bacon/cheeseburgers on the outdoor grill.

June 30, 2007:  You know, we're still tired after the "big event" of last weekend, so Sharlene and I just laid around the house all day, and feasted on leftovers from the wedding, of exactly a week ago.  I struggled to work on the web site, which I'm attempting to publish a huge account of Casey's wedding...

June 27, 2007:  Life goes on after the big event, as Sharlene and I paid a visit to our estate managing firm, who is investing our money, after Sharlene retires, one month from today!  Yes, I dragged myself back to work, after a very harrowing 10 days off, more dead than alive, but somehow I managed to make it through the night.

June 25, 2007:  Sharlene and I "dotted the i's and crossed the t's" as far as the final cleaning of the back yard and the house, as I took about 2 yards of "stuff" to the dump, and Sharlene finished cleaning the house and exterminating the final fly that had managed to penetrate our defenses.  Finally our place is back to normal, but I suspect that it'll take several days for our tired, weary bodies to recover.

June 24, 2007:  The day after the big event, I tackled the clean-up project of the back yard, and Sharlene started on the house.  We took a few hours out to host a brunch at our house for Mom and Gary, Eric, Casey, Tim, Nicole, Matt, Paris, Jacquie and Dave.  After the brunch was finished, it was back to work for a long day of cleanup. However, we did manage to treat Jacquie, Dave, Matt, Paris and ourselves at Tahoe Joe's Famous Steakhouse, for a delicious meal.

June 23, 2007:  The rubber met the road today, as Casey and Tim were married, and are now Mr. and Mrs. Pelfrey. Everything worked out just fine, and the blessed event was pulled-off without a hitch.  I'll be doing a write-up, with photos, and publishing it when I get a chance.

June 22, 2007:  The long day started out with endless cleaning, then the guys arrived to set up the tent, and the bridesmaids arrived to set up flowers, and then it was an afternoon attending to endless last-minute details.  Early in the evening, the minister, Larry Sutter arrived, and we had a rehersal, and the rehersal was finished, it was time to dig into the 10 large-size pizzas that we'd ordered from Pappa John's pizza, Casey's favorite.  But the way, I love all pizzas!  Then, the bar was opened and it was time to relax.  After a night of partying, the bar finally closed at the stroke of midnight, so we could catch a few hours of sleep to prepare for the big event.

June, 20, 2007:  Jacquie and Paris flew in from Ontario to attend Casey's wedding.  They're staying with us, so we're getting a chance to visit.  Photos, and a write-up to be published later, after the wedding.  Needless to say, things are quite busy around here.

June 18, 2007:  I finished cleaning up the back yard, and now I'm in the process of planting flowers, pressure-washing the driveway, and doing whatever else is needed.

June 17, 2007:  I'm on vacation, getting ready for Casey's wedding, this Saturday.  So what am I doing?  Pressure
washing everything around the house, including the ourside of the house, and the surrounding concrete.

June 10, 2007:  The concrete set-up perfectly, so the forms were removed, and I made a run to the local dump to dispose of the excess concrete mix, assorted junk, and the extra Portland cement.  Then it was time to make repairs to the hot tub and gazebo, make dinner, and geeeez... I gotta be to work tonight at midnight!  We are very busy getting the place ready for the wedding in less than two weeks.

June 9, 2007:  Today, I poured .303 yards of concrete.  Since concrete is sold by the yard, and broken down into quarters, I had to purchase a half a yard of concrete mix.  I asked the guy to give me only about a third of a yard, and my excess worked out exactly according to my calculations.  Funny, when I was taking geometry in my junior year of high school, I hated it and thought of it as a waste of time.  But at age 17, I'd never faced the real life situation of pouring concrete...

June 8, 2007:  I spray painted the gazebo today.  Yesssir... one coat, four hour later I was done. Then, I performed the engineering work and built the forms for the new concrete slab, so I could pour it on Saturday.  Does it sound like I'm tired by now?

June 7, 2007:  Wow, a three-day weekend!  But wait...  in celebration of my three-day weekend, I stopped by the hardware store and purchased a bunch of stuff to mask the gazebo, stain and all of that kind of fun stuff.  Then, I remembered my seldom-used High School geometry to figure how much concrete I needed to pour for a new slab, and then, I celebrated my achievement by purchasing concrete mix, Portland cement and lumber to extend the sidewalk in the back yard by the shed.

June 6, 2007:  Our youngest daughter, Casey, is getting married in a little over 3 weeks in our back yard, and I have a lot to do to get the place shined up, cleaned up and ready to go.  So I spent a bit of time with my new pressure washer toy cleaning up the patio and the gazebo.

June 5, 2007:  I purchased a gift for myself, at the suggestion of my wife, Sharlene, a pressure washer!  Now I can go to town and really clean the outside of the house.

May 24, 2007:  We travel with a group of friends and co-workers to Salinas, CA, to attend the funeral of James E. Silva, a friend, Army veteran, co-worker, and a truly nice person.  He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.

May 22, 2007:  Sharlene gets the wonderful news that she can retire from at&t with a nice bonus, after working there for 35 years...

May 20, 2007:  We attend in-laws Karrie and Mike's wedding, and I'm the official photographer.  Yes, I even had a chance to do a write-up on the blessed event, so if you missed it from the front page, click here...

May 19, 2007:  I did something that I haven't done in many years:  Shopped for men's dress clothes.  However when we got home, I found the time to grill a couple of delicious cheeseburgers.

May 6, 2007:  I spent the entire day in the back yard, planting spring flowers, and generally making the back yard look better.  We're getting ready for Casey's wedding, which will take place in our back yard on June 23rd.

May 5, 2007:  I return from a two day four wheeling trip in the Fresno area, and sample some local Mexican cuisine.  Check out the restaurant review section of our web site under Merced Restaurants.

May 4, 2007:  I took off on a short four wheel drive to the mountains east of Fresno, to enjoy what will probably be the last snow trip of the season.

May 2, 2007:  I couldn't believe it, as it rained .33 inches of rain today, as recorded from our computerized weather station, which makes a total of 13.24" of rain we've recorded this year, far short of the usual 19.00" we receive.

May 1, 2007:  To celebrate May Day in the communist world, I go to the dentist to get a small cavity filled.  I guess that will show you my view of communism, and communists in general.

April 24, 2007:  We hire Delta Landscaping to finally finish the landscaping in our back yard, and to eliminate the patch of dirt that we had previously used for a garden. as we plan to beautify the back yard, in preparation of Casey's wedding in June.

April 7, 2007:  Sharlene and I spent the morning at Denio's Farmer's Market, in Roseville, wandering around the place and purchasing a few odds and ends.  I enjoyed a fantastic hot dog and a beer for breakfast!  Later, I grilled leg of lamb, potatoes, asparagus and pineapple for dinner.

March 31, 2007:  Sharlene left to visit her mom, relatives and friends in the Bay Area and left me home alone to work on our new web site.  Well, I had other things to do as well, like WORK this weekend.  Oh by the way, we recorded 80.9 degrees, which makes it the hottest day of the year, so far.

March 27, 2007: Well here it is, the new website has been officially published, and you're now reading our latest family news on http://www.erench.com.  It will take a lot of getting used to, for both of us, but the benefits are worth the hard work.

March 26, 2007:  After being off on vacation for the past two weeks, I had to return to work at midnight.  It wasn't a whole lot of fun.

March 24, 2007:  We were given three pheasants from our next door neighbors, so we smoked them and had friends Dan and Bev over for the evening to enjoy a fine meal.  We wanted to invite the neighbors who gave us the pheasants, but they were out of town for the weekened.

March 19, 2007:  I return home from a two-week road trip to Mexico, Arizona and Nevada, and start to publish the results of my trip on the web, which will be a long, involved process.

March 18, 2007:  Casey and Tim move from our house into their own apartment, after temporarily staying with us for the last couple of months.

March 8, 2007:  What have we been doing?  Nothing.  Nothing to report.  Life is boring, but boring is good, sans drama.

February 10, 2007:  I accepted an overtime opportunity and worked today.  Sharlene and I spent the day getting the house in order, then I made cheeseburgers on my new George Foreman grill that I received as a Christmas gift.

February 8, 2007:  Finally after over a month without rain, and the driest January in Sacramento recorded history, we get rain.

February 4, 2007:  Superbowl Sunday!  My friend David came over to watch the game with me, and brought a bottle of his favorite tequila.  I made buffalo wings, hush puppies, onion rings and quesedillas, and between the eats, the tequila and a fridge full of beer, we enjoyed watching the Colts beat the Bears.

February 3, 2007:  Just a "kick-back" weekend around the house, as it was time to regroup, relax, do household chores and laundry.  I sort of got out of the routine, as I had to work this weekend.

February 1, 2007:  I finally got the article published all about our recent trip to Laughlin, Nevada..

January 26, 2007:  After working hard the last 10 days, I deserve a 3-day weekend, so to start it off, I went to breakfast with my buddies Dan and Dave to the Silver Skillet Restarant, a truckstop restaurant located in North Sacramento.  Later in the day, I amused myself by working on the website.

January 25, 2007:  I got my kicks by spending 3 hours after I got off work in the dentist's chair, getting 2 old crowns replaced and a couple of old fillings fixed.  Yikes!  Sharlene was at work by the time I got home, so I amused myself working on the web site, preparing some future articles.

January 23, 2007:  My day's project:  Make spaghetti sauce for an upcoming putluck at work.  Naturally, I make everyting from scratch, as there are no cans or bottles allowed in my kitchen!

January 21, 2007:  Sharlene and Casey spen most of the day shopping for wedding stuff, as Casey plans to get married in June.  This is the first announcement on the web of her upcoming marriage.

January 15, 2007:  Sharlene had to go back to work today, but I amused myself by taking a early morning walk in the 24-degree temperature and fixing a broken faucet in the back yard, that was damaged in the recent freeze.

January 14, 2007:  We return from a fun vacation at Laughlin, Nevada, with our friends Jerry and Edna, and get back to the routine.  I have the next several days off work, thanks to vaction time left over from last year.

January 12, 2007:  How cold can it get in Roseville?  How about a balmy 19.9 degrees farenheit, recorded at 0330 in the morning!  Write-up to follow...

January 11, 2007:  I got off work at 0800, and Sharlene was waiting at work, as were taking a "mini-vacation" of a few days to Laughlin, Nevada, with our friends Jerry and Edna.  Write-up to follow...

January 15, 2007:  Sharlene had to go back to work today, but I amused myself by taking a early morning walk in the 24-degree temperature and fixing a broken faucet in the back yard, that was damaged in the recent freeze.

January 6, 2007:  Sharlene left for the Bay Area to visit her mom, as I had to work the weekend.  She returned safely the following day after a rather uneventful visit.  I spent the weekend working and watching N.F.L. Playoffs.

January 2, 2007:  Back to work for Sharlene, Casey and I, although Tim got an unexpected holiday in reverence of the passing of Gerald Ford.  To amuze myself, I took down the outdoor Christmas light, and stored them in the shed for another 11 months.

January 1, 2007:  Happy New Year to everybody, and we wish you the best in 2007!  I can't believe its 2007 already, but all I did today is work on the web site, while Sharlene relaxed.  I'm in the process of getting myself into the "working mode."
