Kennedy's Pioneer Burger is a small, one-of-a-kind, locally owned restaurant that serves quality burgers, fries, hot dogs and more. This fine restaurant is located in the rural Amador County community of Pioneer, and is a favorite of the locals, and highway travelers for delicious food, served by friendly staff. As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences. Photo: It's about 14:30 in the afternoon, Saturday, May 02, 2026 and I've arrived at Kennedy's Pioneer Burger, located in Pioneer, CA to enjoy one of their made-before-your-eyes burgers, along with an order of fries. This fine restaurant has achieved quite a reputation among "foodies" who enjoy a delicious burger, as they are known for serving one of the best burgers in Amador County. I love the patio, which will make for enjoyable dining, as the weather was perfect for the occasion on this mid-Saturday afternoon in early May. Photo: As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice is the menu, which is posted above the counter and the open kitchen where you can watch the talented staff prepare your order. Unlike fast food restaurants, food isn't pre-made, as everything is fresh, and made to order after you've placed your order. Kennedy's Pioneer Burger operates on what I call the "taqueria format," in that you make your order selection from the overhead menu, pay for it at the register, and the cashier will write your name on the order. Then, you choose any open table and when your order is ready, it will be brought to you by one of the friendly staff members. Today, the restaurant was very busy, and the small dining room was filled mostly with folk waiting for orders to-go, as takeout seems to be the most popular option when it comes to burgers and fries. The dining room may be small, but the patio was sparsely seated and very inviting today. Photo: The beer menu is very simple, as it features beer from Amador Brewing Company, locally brewed in nearby Plymouth. After looking over the menu, I went with a "Kolsch," as it had been a long time since I've enjoyed a "Kolsch" ale. I wasn't disappointed! Photo: I looked at the menu and I decided on a "Jalapeņo Cheddar Burger," along with a large order of fries, and the friendly gentleman at the order counter commended me on my choice. I had heard about this epic burger, and I wanted to sample it, and see if it lived up to it's reputation. The open kitchen is on display behind the order counter, and it's always great to watch the talented staff at work. Photo: After the chef has finished frying the meat, another staff member assembles the burgers, according to the order. At Kennedy's Pioneer Burger, the talented staff will craft a burger just the way you want it. Photo: The friendly counter gentleman to took my order brought it to me with a smile. I suppose I was so eager to enjoy the burger and fries that I neglected to ask his name, and the check was tabled as, "Bonnie S.," which definitely belonged to another staff member. Since I was dining on site, I'd requested that my burger be served with a box and a tray, as I knew I'd be bringing some of it home with me. My burger and fries arrived wrapped from the kitchen, with a nice box to bring home leftovers for tonight's dinner. Photo: I raise my glass of "Kolsch Ale" and toast the friendly staff at Kennedy's Pioneer Burger, located in Pioneer, CA. Photo: I went with a "Jalapeņo Cheddar Burger," along with a large side of fries, and a refreshing "Kolsch Ale," brewed locally in Plymouth by Amador Brewing Company. The posted menu describes this burger as, "Grilled jalapeņo, Cheddar, pepperjack, onion, lettuce tomato." Short, simple description for one of the best cheeseburgers in Amador County! The burger began with a half pound of tender, juicy beef, lightly seasoned and grilled to a perfect medium. This was the big patty, as a smaller, one-third pound patty is standard, but I like beef in my burger! The delicious meat was topped with a slice of Cheddar cheese, along with a slice of pepperjack cheese, with the cheese melted perfectly on top of the meat. Then came the fresh garnishes, including white onion, sliced tomato and lettuce which topped the meat patty. All of this goodness was sandwiched between a fresh, lightly buttered and toasted brioche bun with grilled jalapeņo chili pepper slices placed under the meat. Besides the butter, this amazing cheeseburger wasn't dressed with any supporting condiments, as it was standalone delicious, and didn't require enhancement from any condiments! You can't enjoy a cheeseburger without an order of fries, and I was in the mood for fries, so I ordered a large order of fries. The fries were cut medium size, lightly salted, and deep fried to perfection. I really enjoyed the fact that some of the fries had little pieces of skin, and that the fries varied in size. Some of the smaller fries were crispier than the larger ones, which made for a cornucopia of fried goodness! Little packages of ketchup were provided for dipping. I might add the restaurant recently replaced their aging deep fryer, and I'm glad to see the new fryer is working well and doing a great job! To tie the delicious meal together, I went with a "Kolsch Ale," brewed locally by Amador Brewing Company. This is a kolsch-type ale, that's refreshing, light and crisp... and perfect to enjoy with a delicious cheeseburger and a side of fries! On my first bite... it was love at first bite! I was rewarded with the tender, juicy beef, the blend of Cheddar and pepperjack cheese, along with the medley of crisp, fresh veggies, and the flavor and slight heat of the grilled jalapeņo chili pepper slices, The fresh, toasted bun held it all together and tasted delicious! The talented chef "nailed" this amazing cheeseburger, as all ingredients complimented one another, and made for one of the best cheeseburgers you'll find in the area. The fries complimented the burger, and the ale made the perfect dessert. This was a cheeseburger that I'll remember for a long, long time! Photo: I hold my "Jalapeņo Cheddar Burger," and admire all of the goodness. Isn't this a beautiful cheeseburger? One half pound of tender beer, and for a few extra bucks, I could have ordered a second beef patty. Between the half pound cheeseburger and the large order of fries, my hunger was completely satisfied! When you're on your way to Kirkwood to enjoy skiing, or to Caples Lake to catch rainbow trout for dinner, or anywhere along Highway 88 and beyond, take a tip from the Pioneer locals, and "foodies" who enjoy a top-shelf burger...
