Friday, May 27, 2011 was my - yeah!!! - turn to pick the location of today's meeting of the Sacramento Breakfast Club, and I chose Chubby's Diner, which is a small, 1950's style, old-school diner, located in the Roseville Square shopping center, in Roseville, CA.

Photo:  Chubby's Diner is located in Roseville Square shopping center, just a block off busy Interstate 80, and offers plenty of easy parking.

Photo:  Is this 2011 or is it 1957?  Digital photography and the world wide web gives a clue that it's 2011, but if you're a fan of 1950's style diners you should know that Chubby's Diner is definitely old school, complete with the vinyl seats, the chrome plating on the stools, the breakfast counter, and the 1950's and 1960's music playing in the background. The menu is also old school, as if offers many classic items before the "health police" invaded restaurants and diners.  Hamburger buns are baking in the oven, to the extreme left of the photo.  If digital photos could convey "scratch and smell," you'll smell the delicious aroma of freshly baking hamburger buns, and the smell of freshly brewing coffee... Ohhh baby!!!

Photo:  Our friendly and efficient, and possibly over-worked server, Glenda, refills our coffee mugs for the umpteenth time.  Your coffee mug will never run dry at Chubby's Diner, as Glenda was there every few minutes to keep the delicious coffee comin'.

Photo:  Our friendly server, Glenda, smiles, as I snap her photo, as she holds my breakfast of steak, potatoes and eggs.  Glenda told us that she's been at Chubby's for 19 years, and that we were the first party that she'd had to write-up the orders on paper - we were all separate - as she usually commits the orders to memory.  This photo was a "grab shot," and if it wasn't for the background behind Glenda's head, I would think that this is one of the best photos that I've ever taken of a beautiful woman, hard at work.  As it is, I like this photo...  Thanks, Glenda...

Photo:  Glenda picks up Matt and Sara's order from the kitchen.  On this Friday morning, Glenda was the only server on duty, and she was a very busy person, yet she always took the time to keep our coffee mugs full, and to add the "personal touch" to our breakfast experience.  Not to mention that she put up with my constant questions - in order to write this article - and my photos... I thought it was interesting after I told her of the mission of today's meeting that she remarked that she noticed me taking photos of the restaurant before we came in.  Doesn't everybody take photos of places where they eat?  Naught!!!!! ... only a "foodie" like me...

Photo:  My breakfast of steak, eggs, hash brown potatoes, sourdough toast and coffee.  The steak was so tender that a knife wasn't necessary, as I could have cut it with a fork.  Glenda pointed out that Chubby's Diner makes hamburger in-house, and the meat is delivered fresh daily, and true to form, as we were enjoying our breakfast, a bobtail van arrived, and we watched the delivery guy bring fresh meat to the restaurant.  My breakfast was delicious, cooked just the way I like it, and definitely "old school."

Probably the thing that we loved the most about Chubby's Diner was the aroma of baking hamburger buns, baking in an oven behind the counter, for all to see.  Sharlene and I made a pact to return for lunch to sample one of their burgers, as the smell of baking hamburger buns was so wonderful!  Too bad photos can convey the aroma! Anyway, at the parking lot post mortem meeting, we agreed that the old-school atmosphere of Chubby's Diner is captivating, Glenda's friendly and efficient service was wonderful, and the food was great.  Chubby's Diner is a winner, in the eyes of the Sacramento Breakfast Club.
