The nearby Sierra Nevada mountain range is one of my favorite places to visit, as I never run out of things to do and places to explore, and I never get tired of the majestic beauty.  Just thinking about a visit to the Sierras will spark my appetite, and automatically brings up the question, "Where shall I eat breakfast?"  In the small mountain city of South Lake Tahoe, the "where-do-I-eat-breakfast" question can be answered in only two words:  Bert's Cafe.

As with all of my reviews, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  Bert's Cafe is located on the south end of town, near the Tahoe "Y."  Bert's is a favorite among South Lake Tahoe locals, and visitors alike.  The cafe is noted for delicious, home-style cooking, and comfort food, and caters to the taste of the area locals.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the dining room is long and narrow.  Seating is informal at Burt's Cafe, so if there's a staff member at the register, he or she will seat you, or if you prefer, just grab any empty booth.

Photo:  Today is Tuesday, May 09, 2017, and it's a little past 8 in the morning.  I've claimed a seat at the end of the counter, have ordered breakfast, and while my breakfast is cooking, I manage to snap a photo of the long and narrow dining room.

Photo:  From my seat at the end of the diner, I can look into the kitchen and watch the chef in action.  Note the pan of gravy sitting on a warming burner on the oven... When I saw that pan of gravy, I ordered a side of gravy to enjoy with my breakfast.  Bert's Cafe is very serious about breakfast, as they're open everyday from 7 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon, and breakfast is served any time the restaurant is open.  Of course, lunch is too, so if you crave a burger at 7 in the morning, you've come to the right restaurant in South Lake Tahoe.

Photo:  My friendly server Moran, smiles as she holds my breakfast, and a side of amazing gravy.  One of the chefs is looking through the window, and he seems to approve of my picture taking. Moran and other staff members took great care of me, and made sure my coffee cup never ran dry.

Photo:  I sit at the counter and prepare to enjoy a delicious breakfast at Bert's Cafe, in beautiful South Lake Tahoe. Thanks to my friendly server, Moran, for snapping my photo.  Unlike the restaurants closer to the state line, who cater to tourists and the "casino crowd," Bert's serves classic "comfort food," and caters to the taste of Lake Tahoe locals.

Photo:  Bert's Cafe offers a wide variety of breakfast choice, and the menu includes all of your favorites, and includes something for every taste, including for those who don't choose to eat meat.  When I'm in the mountains, my appetite takes a surge, so I have a tendency to enjoy a hearty breakfast, which would make a vegetarian cringe. On this Tuesday morning, my breakfast choice was linguica, home style potatoes, eggs, sourdough toast, coffee, and a side of breakfast gravy.  Delicious!

Photo:  My breakfast was cooked perfectly, and tasted even better than it looks in the photo!  This delicious breakfast kept me full all day, which was a good thing, as after breakfast, I spent the remainder of the day hiking around the Tahoe basin.

Bert's Cafe is a favorite of the South Lake Tahoe residents and visitors, as the restaurant serves delicious food, caters to the mountain appetite, and offers a great place to share a delicious meal with your neighbor.  The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly.  Bert's Cafe knows Lake Tahoe, and Tahoe knows Berts...
