Cricket Country Kitchen has been a breakfast destination restaurant for many years for Sacramento locals, and all others who enjoy amazing breakfast cuisine.  The food is great, the price is "rock bottom," and the decor is as "quirky" as it gets.

As with all reviews  I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  It's a little past 07:00 on Tuesday morning, March 02, 2021 and I've arrived at Cricket Country Kitchen, located in Sacramento, CA to enjoy a delicious "Early Bird" breakfast.

I've been to this amazing diner many times, mostly with friends during the days of the former Sacramento Breakfast Club.  Click on THIS LINK to enjoy one our former visits.  Note the restaurant has been painted to "boxcar red" from the former white that was the standard paint for many years.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, you're greeted with a "funky" decor.  Thanks to the COVID-19, face masks are required and plastic barriers have been erected between the tables and booths.

The decor is unbelievable, as anything you could ever imagine is on the walls or the ceiling.  You have to enjoy a fine meal at Cricket Country Kitchen to enjoy the unique atmosphere the dining room offers.

Photo:  Inside the restaurant, looking toward the entrance.  Since the days of the Sacramento Breakfast Club, plastic partitions now separate booths and tables, thanks to COVID-19.

Photo:  You just have to love a restaurant in NorCal that features a "jackalope," which are native to Wyoming.  The mounted deer and the ice tongs enhance the rustic atmosphere of the dining room.

Photo:  You can look through the order pick up window and watch the tented chef in action.

Photo:  Today's friendly hostess, Mindy, was very busy, as she was the only hostess on this early Tuesday morning.

Photo:  The "Chicken Fried Steak" section of the breakfast menu.  Cricket Country Kitchen is serious about breakfast, as half of their menu is devoted to breakfast, and this amazing restaurant closes at 02:00 in the afternoon.

It's not on the menu, but if you arrive before 08:00, you can order the "Early Bird Special" and get a full chicken-fried steak breakfast for only $5.95, which is the best breakfast deal you'll ever find in March, 2021.  Ask your server...

For the complete menu, including the "Blue Plate Specials," click on THIS LINK.  No worries, as there are links to take you back to the main article.

Photo:  When you're sitting at a booth or a table at Cricket's, look up, and you'll be treated to some amazing decor.

If you're looking for a "corporate dining" experience, you won't find it here, as this restaurant is unique, and is about as "old school" as it gets.

Photo:  The kitchen isn't really "open," so to speak, but you'll be able to watch the talented chefs in action through the order window.  I love the big pots of gravy simmering on the back burners...

When I finished eating my breakfast, I poked my head through the window and complimented the chef on his talent, and the great breakfast that I had enjoyed.  He appreciated my compliments.

Photo:  Just a portion from the "funky" and amazing decor you're treated to as you dine at Cricket Country Kitchen.

Photo:  Meet Mindy, my friendly and talented server, who delivered my amazing breakfast in less than ten minutes after I placed my order.  I as simply amazed at the fast service, and the quality of my delicious breakfast.

Photo:  Thanks, Mindy, for snapping my photo, as I prepare to enjoy an delicious breakfast of chicken fried steak.

Photo:  Cricket Country Kitchen is serious about breakfast!  From the first page of the menu, which features breakfast selections, I ordered "Chicken Fried Steak," which the menu advertises as "Cricket's best in town! Chicken fried steak."

I can't tell you if the chicken fried steak served at Cricket's is the "best in town," but I can say if you're a lover of fine diner cuisine, this breakfast is as good as it gets, as it covers all of the bases, and satisfies the desire of any "foodie" who craves a delicious breakfast.  $5.95????  How can you beat it?

The chicken fried steak started with a piece of piece of beef that is around 5 ounces or so, which in my case, is the perfect size to fill me up for breakfast.  It was perfectly battered, deep fried to a golden brown, and it was so tender that the knife was just "window dressing," as the meat was easily cut with a fork.

Topping the steak was a generous helping of Cricket's sausage gravy... thick, delicious, with lots of chunks of tender, juicy sausage, to enhance the amazing chicken fried steak.  Does it get any better than this?

"Country style" potatoes dominate the breakfast menu at Cricket's - I didn't ask whether hash brown potatoes are served - and the potatoes are amazing!  If you're a lover of potatoes for breakfast, Cricket's potatoes are diced to the right size, seasoned, and grilled to a golden brown on the outside, and tender inside, which makes for perfect breakfast potatoes.

I ordered my eggs fried "over easy," and my eggs arrived fried, over easy, as ordered.  The mark of a great chef is one who cooks eggs as ordered, and at Cricket Country Kitchen, the chef has talent, as my order of eggs were cooked perfectly, as ordered.

What more can I say about the sourdough toast except that it was perfect?

My "Early Bird Special" breakfast cost just $5.95!  You can't get a "McSomething" breakfast at a "fast food" place for that price!  Arrive at Cricket Country Kitchen before 08:00 on a weekday morning and you're in for an amazing breakfast at an amazing price.  This breakfast is as good as it gets, and you can't beat the price!

Photo:  Close up of the "main attraction" of my breakfast... chicken fried steak, potatoes and two eggs over easy. Life simply does not get any better!

You can't beat Cricket Country Kitchen for a great breakfast, and if you're an "early bird," you can't beat the "Early Bird Special" breakfast!  Where else can you enjoy a wonderful breakfast of "Chicken Fried Steak" for less than you'd pay for a bag of "stuff" from a fast food restaurant?
