Saturday, November 16, 2013 I took the opportunity to railfan Donner Pass, which is one of my favorite hobbies, next to eating, of course.  I took the opportunity to visit Dine N Dash Cafe, located in the quaint mountain town of Colfax.

Photo:  Dine N Dash Cafe is located at the west end of Colfax, on Canyon Way, and features plenty of easy parking.

Photo:  The dining room reflects on the community of Colfax, and in a word, could be described as "rustic."  The kitchen, and breakfast bar is located to the right of the photo; I sat at the bar, where I prefer to sit when I dine by myself.  The dining room was very comfortable, and squeaky clean.  Note the fireplace in the far end of the room, and the mounted deer.  Colfax is in deer country, as it's at the 3500 foot-level in the Sierra Nevada mountains.  I asked my server, Breanna if they used the fireplace, and she told me that it's used in cold weather.  At 0730 on this Saturday morning, the temperature was 38 degrees... isn't that cold enough to light the fireplace?

Photo:  Behind the dining room, there is a large covered patio, that's partially open to the great outdoors.  If you think the main dining room is rustic, check this out!  Today, I was the first customer, but by the time I left, the locals were coming in for their Saturday breakfasts.

Photo:  The menu calls this "The Usual Breakfast," and today, I chose to go meatless.  The "Usual Breakfast" is served with two eggs cooked to your specification, home fries, toast or biscuit and gravy.  Check out the mountain of home fries!  This breakfast was delicious, filling, and at $6.50, an excellent value. "The Usual Breakfast" was a good way to start of a day of watching railroad action on Donner Pass.

Photo:  Early Tuesday morning, November 26, 2013, I paid another visit to Dine N Dash Cafe, as I was headed to the hills to do some railfanning.  At 0700, I'm the first customer, and my truck is the only vehicle parked in the lot.  The restaurant is decorated for Christmas, on this chilly morning, so I couldn't resist posting a photo.  Nice work, Dine N Dash... lookin' good!

Photo:  Today's friendly server, Jamie M., happily poses with my breakfast of Huevos Rancheros.  When I dine alone, I prefer to sit at the counter, in order to check things out, and keep in touch with the server.  The kitchen can be seen in the background.

Photo:  I asked Jamie to take my photo, and she was happy to oblige.  By the time my order arrived, quite a few other folks were enjoying the restaurant.  Dine N Dash Cafe is a favorite of the Colfax locals...

Photo:  Today was definitely a bonus, as coffee was on the house!  Today, I enjoyed Huevos Rancheros, which kept me satisfied for an entire day of railfanning.  The menu describes the breakfast as, "Two eggs, beans, melted cheese, topped with Ranchero sauce, avocado, sour cream and salsa; served with home fries and corn tortillas." From the time I ordered my breakfast until it was served was, at the most, 10 minutes.  Talk about fast service!  Oh, but speed doesn't sacrifice quality, as this breakfast was simply delicious!  The potatoes were cooked perfectly, e.g., golden on the outside, chewy on the inside, which is just the way I like them.  I ordered the eggs over easy; they were placed on a couple of corn tortillas, smothered in ranchero sauce, and garnished with sour cream, salsa and avocado.  If you love Huevos Rancheros as much as I do, I recommend you pay a visit to Dine N Dash Cafe, as they definitely produce the kind of Huevos Rancheros that I love.

Comfortable, rustic dining, friendly people, fast service, delicious food, and reasonable prices make Dine N Dash Cafe a winner!  It's a "must visit" restaurant in Colfax, CA...
