Early Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2014 found me heading home during the course of an 11-mile hike, and somehow when I'm on a long hike, my nose always seems to point in the direction of the Onyx Club, and my boots always seem to automatically take me to one of my favorite clubs on the west side of the railroad tracks, in historic, downtown Roseville.  There are many reasons I love the Onyx Club, but a couple of them are:

*  $1.75, 16-oz draught beers before six in the evening!!!!
*  Super friendly staff, including my favorite bartendress, Heather
*  Friendly, local patrons

Photo:  Doesn't Onyx Club resemble a saloon right out of the wild west?  Onyx Club is the second oldest club, established in 1936.  Photo was taken a week after my visit, early in the morning, to a very deserted Main Street.

Photo:  As Heather chows down, she and a patron look out the open front door, as a passerby looks in, waves, and bids Heather a "Good afternoon."

Photo:  Heather pours a drink, and exchanges friendly banter with another patron.  Onyx Club is truly a friendly place!

Photo:  Heather appears to be dazzled and amazed as she enjoys a conversation with a couple seated at the bar. When I came in, Heather said, "Oh, you're the photographer and I haven't seen you for a couple of weeks."  True. She also went on to say that she and the owner had reviewed my previous article, and how much they appreciated the free publicity I gave them.  I said, "My pleasure."  She mentioned that I was welcome to take as many photos as I wanted to.  My kind of place!  Contrast her warm welcome to the chilly reception that I endured later that afternoon at nearby Vernon Street Grill, which is a place to avoid like the plague.

Photo:  Turn about is fair place, so I requested Heather to take my photo.

Photo:  Heather asked me if I was hungry - of course I was - and she gave me a box of stuffed sausage and cheese pastries, complete with dipping sauce.  The price was free, as they had made them by mistake, so instead of throwing them away, I was the benefactor.  I thanked her profusely, and enjoyed a great snack, free of charge!

Photo:  Back again... Tueday, July 08, 2014.  As soon as I came in, friendly Heather greated me, as "The Photographer," and insisted that he have her photo taken with me, which I was only too happy to oblidge.  I stopped by Onyx Club for a couple of beers before heading to Roseville's "Downtown Tuesday Night" which happens every Tuesday evening, in downtown Roseville, from May through July.

Photo:  Heather smiles for my camera, behind the bar, as she texts on her cell phone.  I always attempt to time my visits to Onyx Club when Heather is tending bar, as she's a nice gal, and very friendly.

Saturday afternoon is a great time to visit Onyx Club.  I always have a great time, as the crowd is friendly, and my favorite bartendress, Heather, is working the bar. You know... I think I need to spend more time at the Onyx Club!!!

Here's a write-up talking about earlier visits to Onyx Club...

Early Saturday afternoon, February 26, 2011, found me heading home during the course of an 11-mile hike, and somehow when I'm on a long hike, my nose always seems to point in the direction of the Onyx Club, and my boots always seem to automatically take me to one of my favorite clubs on the east side of the railroad tracks, in historic, downtown Roseville.  There are many reasons I love the Onyx Club, but a couple of them are:

*  $1.25, 16-oz draught beers during the afternoon!!!!
*  Super friendly staff, including my favorite bartendress, Heather

Photo:  Doesn't Onyx Club resemble a saloon right out of the wild west?  It's located on Main Street, on the east side of the railroad tracks, and it's a fun, friendly place to enjoy 16-oz draught beers at the unheard of lowball price of $1.25 each.

Photo:  Onyx Club's bar is lined with real onyx and I counted 20 barstools, with room for more.  There are a number of pool tables, a karaoke machine, a disc jockey booth, and a good-sized dance floor.  This place really rocks on weekend evenings.

Photo:  Heather has just poured my 16-oz draught beer from the tap and was in the process of placing it on the bar, before me.  I had already asked permission to photograph the bar, and her in particular, and she readily agreed.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again... you get a 16-oz beer for the low, low price of $1.25!!!!  That's way cheaper than anywhere else, including Mexico.  If you like beer and friendly people, the Onyx Club is for you!

Photo:  Heather and I made a lot of small talk as she polished a bottle of Jose Cuevo tequila at the bar.  We talked about beer, and I told all about the awful dining experience that I'd just endured at Mr. Subs... we also talked about the local moron that recently got electrocuted as he was attempting to steal live copper wires from the local power company... the crazy meth addict got his just reward, and got zapped, like the bug he was...

Photo:  I asked friendly Heather to snap my photo, of me enjoying a cold, draught beer.  To me, there is nothing better than drinking cold beer, in a chilled glass, right out of the tap.  Look at the 1940's vintage Coke machine in the background of the photo... it's actually operational.

Photo:  I absolutely love to pose with beautiful women, but this photo wasn't my idea.  As I was chatting with Heather, one of the staff members came up to me and said, "Why don't I take a photo of you with Heather?"  I was only too happy to oblige...

Photo:  Update:  Early Saturday afternoon, March 12, 2011... I hit the bar again and as I'm sitting the bar stool, I strike up a conversation with Tina, a ex-Army girl, who seems to know that I'm ex-Navy, and starts talking military talk.  She and Sandy, the bartender, seemed surprised when I whipped out my camera and took this photo. Several other patrons, sitting on bar stools next to Tina, said "You cannot take photos... "  but I did!

Photo:  February 16, 2013, I hit Onyx Club again, to enjoy their $1.25 draught beers, and have the pleasure of enjoying Heather's company again.  It seems she's acquired a bit of hardware since the photos I took of her a couple of years ago.

Photo:  On the way home, walking on Main Street, I ran into Katy, who was walking her dogs, who graciously allowed me to snap her photo.  Her remark was "I don't know why I'm doing this...?"  Katy, honey, I'm giving you your 15 minutes of fame!

Photo:  Katy promised that she'd be opening a food stand on Main Street, selling Philippino food, as she told me that she's half Phillipino... but I never saw her food stand, or I neverr saw her again.  Anyway, in this photo, she poses with her dogs.

Photo:  Sunday, March 13, 2011, on the way home from the Onyx Club, I managed to run into Alicia, at Joseph's Auction Yard, who allowed me to snap her photo.  Folks, I think Alicia is probably one of the most beautiful woman that I've ever had the chance to photograph, walking home from a bar!

Photo:  Saturday, March 09, 2013, I'm back again, enjoying $1.25 draught beers, and Heather's company.

You know... I think I need to spend more time at the Onyx Club!!!
