Every year, during the second weekend of August, California Four Wheel Drive Association holds their annual Sierra Trek event, in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains northwest of Truckee, CA.  The event features four days of awesome four wheeing, great food, games, entertainment, live music, and ... a full-service bar, the Summit City Saloon.

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  It's early Thursday evening, around 06:30 or so... August 10, 2023 and Summit City Saloon is open for business at Sierra Trek 2023!

Summit City Saloon worked well with Sierra Trek Restaurant and Hi Landers Snack Bar to make this year's Sierra Trek CA4WDC event a monumental 4-wheel drive event, and a memorable event for "foodies."

The saloon is the same from previous years, but this year it has a new name, as previously this fine saloon was known as Old Goats Saloon.

Photo:  The bar menu is posted on the wall, behind the counter.  Note the prices are super reasonable, especially considering this is a fund raising event for CA4WDC and Sierra Trek.

Photo: You walk up to the bar and you'll be greeted by friendly staff, who will welcome you and treat you like royalty.

Photo:  In order to patronize Summit City Saloon, you need to go to registration, show them your ID., and for your trouble, you'll be rewarded with an "Over 21" wristband, allows you to legally purchase drinks.  Cal4Wheel is serious about the legal drinking age, and adhering to all state laws, including drinking while operating a motor vehicle, even on private property.  No worries on my part, as 21 was over 40 years in my rear view mirror, and I NEVER four wheel after enjoying a beer.

Next to the saloon is the "Bank of Summit City," where you exchange your greenbacks for "Trek Bucks" which look like the bucks could be used in the game of "Monopoly."  Now you're ready to enjoy an ice-cold beer, or four, served at Summit City Saloon!

Photo:  Good evening, as I order a Pacifico beer from the bar.

Note that I'm wearing a yellow wrist band, which proves that I'm over the age of 21, and am legally able to purchase adult beverages at the saloon.  CA4WDC has a strict policy that prohibits underage drinking, along with drinking on the trail.  You MUST show identification when you register for the event in order to receive a wrist band, which entitles you to enjoy your favorite drink at the saloon.

I totally stand with CA4WDC with this policy, as I think it's a great thing!  CA4WDC promotes safety, responsibility and environmental friendliness at Sierra Trek, and all events.

If you consider drinking while you're on a run, think again as CA4WDC will kick you off the trail, and certain trail runs, including Fordyce and Signal Peak are chaperoned with Placer and Nevada County deputy sheriffs in the most awesome "cop" Jeeps you've ever seen!  Leave your drinking at camp, at Summit City Saloon!

Photo:  My bartendress along with a friendly customer are enjoying a laugh or two on this beautiful Thursday evening.

Photo:  It's party time on this great Thursday evening!

Photo:  My friendly host, along with amazingly friendly bartender Judy, strike a classic pose at Summit City Saloon during Sierra Trek, 2023.

Photo:  I went with a simple "well shot" of whiskey, and it turned out to be a few ounces of Jack Daniel's, which is "top shelf" whiskey in my book.  Friendly Judy posed with the bottle for my digital camera.

Photo:  As you belly up to the bar, you're always treated to snacks at Summit City Saloon.  Popcorn goes great with beer or shots of "Jack!"

Photo:  Early Friday evening, August 11, 2023... friendly Judy and I are enjoying shots together.

Photo: Let's celebrate and enjoy another shot or two!  Two of the volunteers working at Summit City Saloon.

Photo:  Saturday, August 12, 2023, after running the "Outer Limits" trail run, a.k.a., "Bear Valley Loop" it was time to head over to the saloon and enjoy another ice-cold Pacifico beer.

Photo:  Cheers!  I'm a happy guy after the trail run, as I've purchased a Pacifico beer and I can relax and enjoy this delicious beer.

Photo:  Another Pacifico beer, along with a shot... if you please...

Photo:  I say "Cheers!" to Sierra Trek 2023, along with Summit City Saloon, as I celebrate early Saturday evening, August 12, 2023, with a Pacifico beer, and a toast to this amazing 4-wheel drive event!

After a hard day on the Fordyce Creek trail, or just hanging around base camp, there's nothing like an ice-cold beer, along with a shot of whisky to shake off the dust, and Summit City Saloon is in base camp, at the end of the trail, ready to enjoy.  Cold beer, great shots, along with reasonable prices, served by friendly volunteers make Summit City Saloon an oasis, at the end of a hard and enjoyable day the trail...
