Back to Mexicali Food

Mexicali food?  Mexican food at Jack's?  At Jack In The Box?  What is this...?   Am I crazy?  Read on...

No, there isn't a Jack-In-The-Box in Mexicali.  However, just a few blocks north of the border at Calixico, California, along Imperial Avenue, there is a fine Jack In The Box.   Oh yes, Imperial Avenue, in Caexico, is the main road that leads to the U.S./Mexican border and, eventually, to Mexicali.

After a long day of hiking around downtown Mexicali, not to mention several previous days spent in Mexico sampling their fine street food, I felt like a good taste of "comfort food."  So after I crossed the border from Mexico into California, Jack-In-The-Box seemed like a good place to go, as the restaurant is only a half-mile north of the border, and only a block south from the motel where I was staying, on my April 2005 visit to Mexicali.

Left:  Jack In The Box, at Imperial and Rockwood, only 5 blocks north of the border.  Right:  Did you notice that the menus in American fast food restaurants are posted above the counter, just like in many small Mexican restaurants?

Picture this:  Sky is dark, as it's early evening; I'm tired and hungry.  I'm walking back to my motel room that I've rented for the night, after spending the last several hours hiking around downtown Mexicali.  There, on my right  is my savior, "comfort food" that I'd been looking for:  Jack!  Bingo!

I was in the mood for a hamburger and a few onion rings so I walked up to the counter at Jack's and filled my order.  I actually ordered it in English, although Spanish is spoken in this restaurant.  After hiking around Mexicali, I was tired and wanted a couple of brewskies, so I opted for a take-out order, so I could relax at the motel before consuming my delicious meal.  After only a couple of minutes, my order was ready to go.  The girl at the counter not only spoke English, but she was a friendly person.  I like friendly staff when I visit a fast food restaurant, as I prefer to give my hard-earned dollars to friendly people.

Jack's food is good, period.  The Jack In The Box at Calexico on Imperial Avenue, just north of the Mexican border, is no exception.  When you're ready to cross the border in Calexico, and you want a bit of good 'ol American "comfort food," check out this Jack.  He'll bring you lots of comfort.
