Back in December, 2004, during a previous visit to Ensenada, I noticed this Kentucky Fried Chicken store, which is the largest KFC outlet that I've ever seen.  On that long-ago Sunday evening, the place was packed with locals, and I couldn't help to think, "Who'd want to eat at KFC when there are so many good fish taco stands in town?" Whatever the reason, the locals seem to love KFC, and I made up my mind that some day, I was going to pay the Colonel a visit during a trip to Ensenada.

Photo:  It's 4:53 in the afternoon on Monday, September 10, 2010, and here's the largest Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet that I've seen to date.  I normally don't eat American fast food when I visit Mexico, but curiosity got the better of me.  If you like KFC, you'll love the Ensenada outlet.  The store is situated in the middle of a small "island," surrounded by busy streets, so for the pedestrian, it's a bit tricky to get to the restaurant.

Photo:  The format is the same as in the U.S.A., as you walk up to the counter, make your selection from the overhead menu, pay for it, and wait for the staff to fill your order.  The gal at the counter seems to enjoy having her photo taken, as it's probably not something that happens very often on a Monday afternoon in mid-September.

Photo:  Inside the dining room, with the order counter in the center of the photo.  My "everyday" digital camera conked out, and I'd hiked 2-miles from the motel, so I didn't feel like hiking back to get my "large" camera.  So all photos in this article were taken with my iPhone 4, which is my constant companion.

Photo:  I ordered a 2-piece dinner, with mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, and a drink.  The price was MEX $49.00, which is about the price you'd pay for the same meal in the U.S.A. Mexico uses a value-added tax system, so all prices include sales tax, and state and federal income taxes.  Compare this meal to the MEX $10.00 you pay for a delicious fish taco... As I mentioned before, the only difference between this meal, and it's U.S.A. counterpart was the little package of jalapeno catsup.

Photo:  After enjoying my lunch at KFC, the restroom called, and this is what greeted me in the men's room.  Ah, you just gotta love Mexico!

If you're a fan of KFC, you won't be disappointed, as the food is EXACTLY the same as in any other outlet,  The dining room is the same, the format is the same, and the ONLY difference is, of course, everything is in Spanish, the prices are in Pesos, and one of the little packages of catsup is jalapeno catsup. That's where the differences end...  If you love the Colonel, you'll love his store in Ensenada!
