Licoretia La Playa is a small, family-owned and operated restaurant, located along Av. Malecon, just north of Calzada Chetumal.  It features completely closed indoor dining downstairs, and terrace dining upstairs, facing the Sea of Cortez, where diners can enjoy their dinner on "La Terraza."  Like most restaurants located in "seafood restaurant row," along San Felipe's malecon, La Playa serves practically any variety of seafood dish, and specializes in what else, fish tacos.

Photo:  La Playa is located along Paseo del Mar, and has the kitchen and a small dining room located downstairs, as the main dining room is located upstairs.

Licoretia La Playa seems to be a smaller operation than many of the other restaurants, as I was the only customer present, and there were two women running the restaurant, one who was in the kitchen, performing kitchen duty, and the other gal doing waitress work, taking orders, making change, and bussing the tables.  When I visit San Felipe, I just can't get enough fish tacos, so I simply walked up to the counter, greeted the gal in the kitchen, and ordered two fish tacos, with all of the condiments, and a cold Pacifico beer to wash it all down with.

Photo:  I catch our camera-shy waitress bussing tables downstairs.

I sat down at a table, near the entrance to the kichen downstairs, and the waitess immediately placed a basket of tortilla chips, and a bowl of runny, red salsa in front of me.  Does this sound familiar?  Quickly, in less than 5 minutes, my order of fish tacos arrived, cooked to perfection.  The usual:  Two tortillas per taco, and two pieces of deep fried fish per taco, a plate of fresh condiments, and a squeeze bottle of mayonnaise, watered down with lime juice.  Delicious tacos, made of fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection, but practically everything else about the restaurant was compeltely forgetable, except for the lady in the kitchen, who completely freaked out as I attempted to take her photo.

Photo:  Oh! No!  Don't take my photo... as the waitress attempts to dodge the camera, as she ducks into the kitchen, where fish if frying on the propane-fired range.

Photo:  My delicious meal of tow fish tacos, all you can eat chips and salsa, and condiments.  Good, but not great.

I spent the usual price of only MEX $35.00 for the two tacos and the beer, which represents a very fair price, for very good food.  If only Licoretia La Playa had a little more atnosphere...
