While not exactly a restaurant, I just had to give Manuel a plug, as he is a hard-working beach vendor who makes a living pushing a wheelbarrow full of nuts up and down the beach, catering to locals, tourists, and anybody who likes nuts.  Is this guy nuts?  No, he just sells them.

During my October, 2008 visit to San Felipe, I had the opportunity to watch Manuel in action for parts of three days.  I was on the beach taking photos of the sunrise, Manuel was there, hawking his nuts to the fishermen  who were getting their gear ready for the day.  Later in the day, as I was sitting under a palapa, drinking beer, sure enough, Manuel would trudge by, pushing his trusty wheelbarrow through the sand, and presenting his bags of nuts to anyone who seems the least bit interested, and even to those who weren't at all interested.

Sure enough, as I was relaxing on the beach, here comes Manuel, pushing his Truper wheelbarrow full of bags of nuts in my direction.  I had nowhere to run, nor did I want to relinquish my shady palapa, or abandon my cold can of Tecate beer.  So Manual approached me and started showing me his wares and answering my questions.  I found out the following from Manual:

*  Yes, his name is Manuel; I asked him
*  He makes his living selling bagged nuts to locals and tourists alike
*  He gets his nuts from a local wholesaler
*  He sells bagged pistachio and macadamia nuts
*  A 1/2 kilo bag of nuts goes for MEX $30.00

I felt sorry for the guy, and I purchased a bag of pistachio nuts.  Heck, they go good with beer.  Later I wondered, why didn't I take his photo?

Photo:  "Wow honey!  Look what I just purchased from the friendly beach vendor with the cute red wheelbarrow! Now, could you come here and pay for my nuts?"

I got the chance to redeem myself, as the next day, as I was admiring the activities on the beach, Manuel came along and made a sale of a couple of bags of nuts to a family that was spending a pleasant day at the beach, and who would later take a thrilling boat ride.  I had my camera handy and was able to take photos of the whole transaction, as it happened.

Beach vendors, such as Manuel, may be an annoyance to many, but you have to hand it to these guys, as they're true entrepreneurs and represent private enterprise at its finest.
