In June of 1997, my wife, Sharlene and I were married in Reno, Nevada, and spent our honeymoon at the Peppermill Hotel/Casino/Resort on South Virginia Street, where we enjoyed several day of honeymoon bliss, before having to return to the daily grind.  Naturally, there are many wonderful things to do while enjoying your honeymoon, especially if you're staying at a world-class resort like the Peppermill, but even when you're on your honeymoon, hunger can strike, and when you waken in the morning after a long night of Texas Hold 'Em and other attractions, a good breakfast seems in order.  Sure, you've eaten at the Peppermill Cafe several times, and you want to branch out... so we decided to visit Heidi's Family Restaurant, just 3 blocks north of the Peppermill Hotel/Casino.

Fast forward over ten years later to September 26, 2007, when Sharlene and I were again staying at the Peppermill, and enjoying a brief, although not very profitable, break from reality, and early that Wednesday morning, hunger struck, and we decided to pay Heidi's a visit.  Visiting Heidi's wasn't just a taste of nostalgia, but we decided to pay Heidi's a visit  based upon memories of an outstanding breakfast, ten years ago, plus recent rave reviews from the web site, mrbreakfast.com, which I surf on a regular basis, as I'm a huge fan of breakfast.

We walked into the restaurant and were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess, who promptly seated us at a booth, in the main dining room.  Heidi's decor hadn't changed since our last visit, it was still very "country-ish" with mom's kitchen-style wallpaper, faux hanging plants, and lots of framed photos and kitchen implements decorating the walls.  Heidi's features burgundy carpet, oak tables and chairs, and oak booths, upholstered with red leather. Add that in with the informal decor, Heidi's presents a light, breezy feel, which makes you feel at home and very comfortable.

We were greeted by our waitress Joni, who offered us a huge smile, menus, and always-full coffee cups.  Heidi's features everything that you could ever desire for breakfast, including classics, standards, local-favorites, and a few one-of-a-kind items.  We noted that Heidi's is open from 0630 in the morning until 1400 in the afternoon, so no night-owls or dinner affectionados need apply.  Since I am a HUGE fan of breakfast, it does my heart good to see that Heidi's specializes in breakfast, yet serves a limited lunch menu on the side.  Their focus is in my direction.

The menu choice is huge, but Sharlene decided on a rather plain Denver omelette, and I chose a dish a bit more exiting:  Huevos Mexicali, which consists of two fried eggs, topped with avocado, sour cream, homemade salsa, and cheddar cheese, with homestyle fried potatoes served on the side.  Just to spice things up a bit, I ordered a side dish of Italian sausage, which is one of my favorite varieties of sausage.

While we were waiting for our breakfast, our coffee cups never went below half-full, as our friendly waitress Joni gave us lots of attention, but was never intrusive.  Joni told us that she's been working at Heidi's for 17 years, and currently works the 0900 to 1400 shift, which is part-time, but she likes it that way, as it fits in with her busy family life.  Joni is a nice person, and a great waitress, and Heidi's can be proud to have staff, such as her.

Our breakfast was delivered to our table in what seemed to us only a matter of a few minutes, arriving hot, fresh, and delicious!  Heidi's is everything that we remembered it to be from our previous visit, and the postings that we'd read on the world wide web, which is a restaurant that features friendly, quality service, delicious food, attractive presentations, comfortable dining, and prices that won't leave you bankrupt.  Heidi's Family Restaurant is a Reno favorite for a good reason, as it includes everything that you expect in a family-style restaurant, and a whole lot more.  When you're visiting the "Biggest Little City in the World," we recommend that you pay Heidi's a visit.
