September 5, 2005, we found ourselves in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the second time in the year, visiting our oldest daughter, Jacquie, who had relocated to Las Vegas in 2004, in search of new employment opportunities.  We'd made the 9-plus hour drive to Las Vegas from our home in Roseville, California, and we were too tired to cook, and besides, when you're visiting Las Vegas, who wants to cook?  So when Jacquie suggested we eat at Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que, that was a no-brainier for us.  So, we gathered up a few more members of our Las Vegas extended family, and headed over to Famous Dave's!

Left:  Jacquie sits at Famous Dave's bar and enjoys the first of several tall, cold beers.  Right:  The service at Dave's bar is great, as there are two bartenders and several waitresses to serve you.

The only bad aspect about paying a visit to Famous Dave's on a Saturday night is that you can guarantee that there will be a crowd, as word has gotten around that Famous Dave's serves the best barbecue in Las Vegas, and most likely the entire state of Nevada, and since there are many residents of Las Vegas who like barbecue, well, you know the result is predictable.  However, since I wasn't the driver, the wait wasn't too bad for Jacquie and I, as we simply headed over to their well-stocked bar, parked our behinds on a couple of barstools, and proceeded to order a couple of tall, cold beers.  Now that's an excellent way to start a Saturday evening!

After we were seated, our friendly waitress took our drink orders, and yes, Jacquie and I each ordered beer, while Peggy and Sharlene ordered Long Island Ice tea, Paris was given a coke, and Jack, our designated driver, ordered his usual coffee.

I have to add that Famous Dave's is a sit-down barbecue place, and that feature usually doesn't bode well for a barbecue restaurant, as most good barbecue joints will have their menu posted above the counter, you serve yourself, and the food comes placed on butcher paper.  But Famous Dave's can differ from that norm for a couple of reasons, in that a) They serve Kansas City-style barbecue, and b) They don't make any pretense of being a Texas barbecue joint.  The formula works for Dave, and it works for us.

Left:  Oh here is is!  Time to pig-out, and dig in!  Right:  As if we didn't need it, a second "platter" of food is brought to our table.

Everything on Famous Dave's menu is good, but we couldn't resist ordering their All-American BBQ Feast, which is advertised to feed 4 or 5 people, but left all of us stuffed, with leftovers to take home for breakfast.  What does the e All-American consist of?  A full slab of pork spareribs, a whole chicken, 1/2 pound of your choice of beef brisket, chopped pork or double-smoked ham, coleslaw, famous-fries, Wilbur beans, four corn-on-the-cob, and four corn bread muffins rounds out the meal.  The cost of this feast?  Only $54.99, and you'll be taking half of it home...

As during our previous visit, earlier this year in March, our meal arrived placed on the lids of garbage cans, which seems to be a trademark feature of Famous Dave's, and it adds a nice touch.  An yes, there was a lot to eat, and enough to take home to provide breakfast for a couple of days.

Left:  Jack uses his best "boarding house reach" technique to grab a piece of chicken from the lid.  Right:  Look at how much food we have on our table!

Famous Dave's serves outstanding barbecue, is family-friendly, a lot of fun, reasonably priced, and you won't go away hungry.  Famous Daves?  Highly recommended by me!
