Friday, May 11, 2012, the members of the Sacramento Breakfast Club decided to take a trip to Texas, enjoy a Texas-style breakfast, yet not leave Sacramento.  How did we do this?  By holding our meeting at JR's Texas Bar-B-Que.

Photo:  JR's Texas Bar-B-Que has three locations in the greater Sacramento area, and the El Camino location is the only restaurant that offers breakfast.  JR's opened the El Camono location, which is their newest store, back in October of 2011, and they have been serving breakfast since February of this year.  And their breakfast is unique!

Photo:  In a word, you could describe the dining room of JR's as, "rustic," but the words clean, comfortable and family-friendly also apply.

Photo:  The format is that you walk up to the order counter, make your selection from the menu, pay for your order, and you'll get a receipt, with "your" number on it, as a reward.  When your order is ready, "your" number will be called by one of the friendly staff members, who will hand you your order.  If they're not busy, they will bring your order to your table.  With a large group of 12 hungry breakfast club members, we kept the staff very busy on this Friday morning.

Photo:  I love an open kitchen that allows you to watch the staff members in action, and to actually meet chat with the people who make the restaurant happen.  Today's staff members, in the beautiful kitchen, from left to right, Kevin, Roxanne and Marisol.

Photo:  Roxanne and Marisol check the store's computer for order status.

Photo:  Sean picked up Dan and Bev's breakfast orders and delivers it to the table, in typical Sean style.  His wife, Teri, seems to be ducking the camera; actually I think she is retrieving her sunglasses from the floor.

Photo:  Teri discusses brisket and eggs with staff member Kevin.  Kevin was very gracious to welcome us to the restaurant, and answer the many questions I asked in order to get background material in order to publish this article. He is also very a very talented coffee maker.  Before we left, he came over to our table to thank us for holding our club meeting at JR's; that's a class act!

Photo:  Roxanne called "my" number and places my order on the counter.  Roxanne is the granddaughter of JR, the founder of JR's Texas Bar-B-Que.  Note the stainless steel containers in the foreground of the photo, labeled Original, Sweet and Spicy.  That's barbecue sauce... yes!

Photo:  JR's breakfast menu does not mention barbecue meat, as it offers the usual ham, sausage or bacon.  That said, as the staff is eager to please, so all you have to do is ask to substitute any entrée from the barbecue menu for usual breakfast meat.  So if you've ever dreamed of enjoying barbecue beef brisket, beef ribs, pork shoulder or ribs, baby back ribs, chicken, turkey or hot links for breakfast, you've come to the right place.  I've never had pork ribs for breakfast before, so I ordered a half-order of pork ribs, two eggs over easy, and hash brown potatoes, covered with delicious, chunky, sausage gravy.  Of course, I enjoyed Original barbecue sauce, on the side, Texas-style, and many cups of JR's 50-cent coffee.  Pork ribs and barbecue sauce for breakfast was a first for me. What a great breakfast!  The ribs were smoky, juicy, and when you bit into them, I enjoyed the taste of Texas... Naturally I dipped my ribs into barbecue sauce!  The eggs were perfectly cooked, the hash brown potatoes were great, and the gravy was delicious, and sported lots of chunks of sausage.  The breakfast was both unique and delicious!

JR's Texas Bar-B-Que produces a delicious breakfast, and we were especially delighted thay any eat selection from the barbecue menu is available for breakfast, just by asking, even though barbecue  entrées don't appear on the posted breakfast menu.  JR's aims to please, and they met their goal with the Sacramento Breakfast Club, as JR's Texas Bar-B-Que serves a great Texas-style breakfast!
