After the former Hot Dog King restaurant went belly up, I'd been keeping my eye on this small space, tucked within a small strip mall in West Roseville.  During my travels, I'd noticed activity, and a transformation in progress, as of November 2012, a temporary banner pronounced the name of the restaurant-to-be as Bollywood Chat & Sweets, but it wasn't until Friday, December 28, 2012, that I was able to pay a visit, and enjoy lunch at the still, unfinished restaurant.

Photo:  Bollywood Chat & Sweets is located in a small strip mall, near the corner of Foothills Blvd. and Baseline Rd., in west Roseville.  There is lots of parking!  Located only a mile from my place, Bollywood will be a favorite of mine for a quick, Indian-style, snack.  Indian, "fast food," at it's best!

Photo:  Bollywood is small!  Photo was taken from the entrance... Yes, Bollywood is small, as there are three booths to the left, a couple more to the right, and that's about it.  In true fast food style, you place your order from the lighted menu, located above the counter, and pay your friendly host.  Sort of like a typical taqueria... But, Bollywood is not a taqueria!  The restaurant features Indian street food, and Indian baked goods.  To my knowledge, there is no other restaurant like this in Roseville, so it seems that Bollywood Chat & Sweets has carved a niche.

Photo:  During my visit, on early Friday afternoon, December 28, 2012, the restaurant was still a work in progress, as co-owner Bobby busies himself painting a wall, as chef, "OK," looks on, after preparing my order of Samosa Chaat.  Bobby lamented the fact that he didn't use primer on the wall before painting it... I countered with the comment that I'd observed the restaurant under construction - see the photos - so the wall should have been already primed, or at least had a decent coat of paint remaining from the previous tenant.  When I pressed him for details, Bobby told me that the restaurant had opened on December 22, but was opened sporadically on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas, and was still in the process of opening during my visit.

Photo:  I placed my lunch order of Samosa Chat from the order board, posted above the counter.  Chef, "OK," poses with my order of Samosa Chat.  If you're a fan of Indian cuisine, especially Indian "street food," Bollywood Chat & Sweets is the place to be.

Photo:  I ordered Samosa Chaat for my lunch... Good food!  In case you're not familiar with Indian cuisine, a "samosa" is a baked, or, in the case of Bollywood, deep fried pastry, filled with potatoes, onions, peas, lentils, chicken, or whatever.... It's served with green, sweet chutney, peas, garbanzo beans, onions, and ... it's just plain good!  And, for $4.00, it's a bargain-priced lunch!!!!

Photo:  Friendly Bobby photographed me, as I was ready to enjoy my delicious lunch of Samosa Chaat, at Bollywood Chat & Sweets, in West Roseville, CA.

To me, it seems that Bollywood Chat & Sweets has filled a "niche" market in Roseville, as there is no other restaurant in town that specializes in Indian "street food" cuisine.  Or is it Indian "fast food?"  You decide. Whatever category you care to describe Bollywood Chat & Sweets, the food it good, the staff is friendly, the price is right, and it fills an exotic "niche" in West Roseville.
