Imagine my surprise, while enjoying the 60th edition of the Annual Sylvia Besana Holiday Parade in Roseville, CA, that I spied not one, but two carts of vendors, selling bacon wrapped hot dogs!  Am I in Tijuana, or in Roseville, 550 miles north of the border?  Meadow Farms Sausage Company had today's bacon-wrapped hot dog bases covered with amazing, grilled, bacon wrapped hot dogs, in downtown Roseville!

As with all of reviews that I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  It's a little past 10:00, on foggy Saturday morning, November 20, 2021 and I've arrived in downtown Roseville, CA to enjoy the "60th Annual Sylvia Besana Holiday Parade and Celebration," and to enjoy a bacon-wrapped hot dog, which is a rare treat in Placer County.

Photo:  Meadow Farms Sausage Company, from Los Angeles, migrates north to Roseville to set up several mobile hot dog carts at special events, including this year's "Holiday Parade."  Each hot dog cart has one clear mission: Bacon Wrapped Hot dogs.  There is no menu, as the cart serves only one item.

I really wonder how a bacon-wrapped hot dog cart can happen, as most city municipal codes frown on hot dogs cooked on a propane fired griddle, on city streets.  I'm not an "enforcer," as I'm simply a "foodie" who enjoys bacon-wrapped hot dogs as I watch a parade.

Photo:  Bacon-wrapped hot dogs are warming on the side of the griddle, as others are being cooked.  When you order "everything" on your dog, you get diced onion, grilled if you choose, along with sliced jalapeno pepper. Mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise round out the condiment selection.

Photo:  After placing my order and paying $8.00 - that's correct... up from $5.00 two years ago - my hot dog gal got to work and pulled a bun from a bag hanging from the side of the cart, placed a bacon-wrapped dog on the bun, and added mustard, mayonnaise and onion, as per my request.

Photo:  My delicious bacon-wrapped hot dog was ready in about a minute after I placed my order, and was handed to me with a smile.  Note this is the same lady who served me two years ago.  She was very friendly, but didn't speak much English.

Photo:  Meadow Farms Sausage Company makes their own hot dogs from their factory, so you get a home-grown - imported from Los Angeles - quarter-pound hot dog, that is perfectly grilled on the propane-fired grill, as you watch the friendly gal perfecting her trade.  When you bite into the "dog," it snaps!  Yes, that means the skin is natural, and the "dog" is the way a "dog" should be... perfect, fresh and with "natural" casing.

Today, I simply went with mustard, mayonnaise and grilled onion, which made for a delicious dog.  It SNAPPED as I bit into it - which is the mark of a quality dog - and you could taste the smoky bacon mixing with the dog for an amazing hot dog sensation.  The grilled onion, mustard and mayonnaise made this a fine dog.  That's the good news.

The bad news is that two years ago, the same dog was priced at $5.00.  How can the price of a hot dog climb 60% in two years?  Not to mention that the dog was a regular-size dog, and the bun was simply a regular bun, like you buy in an 8-pack at your supermarket.  $8.00 seems way to high... next time, before I order, I'll ask the price and consider my options carefully.

Photo:  I'm ready to enjoy my bacon-wrapped hot dog on Vernon Street, in downtown Roseville, prior to the "2021 Holiday Parade."  Outstanding dog, but on the pricey side.

Let's go back to Saturday morning, November 23, 2019, when I enjoyed my first bacon-wrapped hot dog on Vernon Street, in downtown Roseville.

Photo:  Say it isn't so... but it's happening... really... as bacon-wrapped hot dogs, being sold from a street vendor in downtown Roseville!  I haven't enjoyed a bacon-wrapped hot dog since my last visit to Tijuana, Mexico!

Meadow Farms Sausage Company somehow made their way up to Roseville, from Los Angeles, and set up a couple of mobile kitchens, to sell amazing bacon-wrapped hot dogs, complete with grilled onion and pepper, after the "58th Annual Sylvia Besama Holiday Parade."

It's just a little after 11:30 on Saturday morning, November 23, 2019, and I'm in the mood to enjoy a couple of bacon-wrapped hot dogs from Meadow Farms Sausage Co., in downtown Roseville, CA.

Photo:  The sign on the cart says, "Meadow Farms Sausage Co., LA's Original Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog,"  but I say "wonderful" as the hot dog gal prepares to make me a complete hot dog, as grilled from her cart.

Photo:  I've lived in Roseville for 25 years, and I've never seen hot dogs, grilled on the street, bacon-wrapped, complete with grilled onion, bell pepper, and sliced jalapeņo pepper on the side.

As I was watching the parade, I could savor the smell of hot dogs cooking on the grill, but I really didn't believe what I was smelling until the parade was finished.  Then... I became a true believer in bacon-wrapped hot dogs, in downtown Roseville!

Photo:  I requested mayonnaise and mustard for my hot dog - hold the ketchup - and my hot dog gal applied mayonnaise with a lot of skill.  Sadly, I didn't catch her name, as she didn't speak a whole lot of English.

Photo:  My hot dog gal presents my bacon-wrapped hot dog to me, with a somewhat pensive smile.  Before today, I've never had the pleasure to enjoy a bacon-wrapped hot dog in downtown Roseville.

Photo:  I'm all smiles, as I'm ready to enjoy a lunch of a bacon-wrapped hot dog from Meadow Farms Sausage Co., as my hot dog gal prepares another "dog" for the friendly bystander who took my photo.

Meadow Farms Sausage Company makes their own hot dogs from their factory, so you get a home-grown - imported from Los Angeles - quarter-pound hot dog, that is perfectly grilled on the propane-fired grill, as you watch the friendly gal perfecting her trade.  When you bite into the "dog," it snaps!  Yes, that means the skin is natural, and the "dog" is the way a "dog" should be... perfect, fresh and with "natural" casing.

Grilled onion and bell peppers are offered for your "dog" - bring it on - and if you're really adventuresome, you can add sliced jalapiņo pepper for an extra taste sensation.  Condiments offered include ketchup, mayonnaise or mustard.  I asked the gal to hold the ketchup, and I enjoyed mustard and mayonnaise on my delicious dog.

I've never enjoyed a bacon-wrapped hot dog on the streets of downtown Roseville until today!  This hot dog was sensational!  At $5.00 a "dog" it had to be good and it was... delicious.  Not exactly "cheap," but worth every dollar to enjoy a hot dog, worthy of being served on the streets of Tijuana.

Photo:  One bacon-wrapped hot dog wasn't enough, so when I came across the second gal selling these delicious hot dogs, I said "Yes!"  She presented my hot dog to me, with a smile.

You enjoy a juicy, quarter-pound hot dog that "snaps" when you bite into it, grilled before your eyes.  The "dog" is wrapped in bacon, and grilled... yes it's grilled as you watch.  Onion and peppers are grilled and are added to your "dog" on your request.  In my case... YES!!!  I added mustard and mayonnaise as my condiments... hold the ketchup, as that's for kids.

My only complaint was the price, as $5.00 a "dog," felt it was on the "steep" side, and the bun was just a regular bun, that came out of a "eight pack" store-purchased wrapper.  But... bacon-wrapped hot dogs in downtown Roseville?  Yowzaaah!!!

Great bacon-wrapped hot dogs and a very unique, hot dog experience to Roseville, as there's nothing else like it... I've lived here for nearly a quarter of a centaury, and I've never seen a bacon-wrapped hot dog vendor on Vernon Street before.  Meadow Farms Sausage Company is a welcome addition to any event, or holiday parade in Roseville, CA!  Come back for the next parade, or any other event...
