West Coast Sourdough is a small chain of about 30 restaurants, located mostly in Northern and Central California. Most locations are franchises, and the menu specilizes in sandwiches, made using freshly-baked San Francisco style sourdough bread.

As with all restaurant reviews I publish, I have no affiliation with the restaurant reviewed, and there is no monetary gain on my part, as I am simply a person who likes to eat, and I love to write-up, and publish my dining experiences.

Photo:  The Blue Oaks Blvd. location of West Coast Sourdough, located in Roseville, CA in the Raley's O-N-E shopping center.  The restaurant opened back in February of this year, and it took until today, Thursday, November 02, 2023 for me to pay them a visit. Their 11 o'clock opening time and lack of public transportation in this part of town were partly to blame why it took me so long to pay them a visit.  I prefer to leave my truck in the garage whenever possible, but I drove it today.

Photo:  As you enter the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the large counter where the sandwiches and salads are made.  Soups are made in the kitchen, where the fresh sourdough bread and cookies are baked.

Photo:  The dining room is clean, comfortable and features many chairs.  High tables and chairs line the walls next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, but they're not shown in the photo.

The restaurant operates on what I call the "taqueria" format, in that you walk up to the "Order Here" section, make your selection from the menu, pay for your order, receive a number, and when your order is ready, it will be brought to you by one of the friendly staff.  If you ordered to-go, your name will be called and you pick it up at the "Pick-Up Here" section.

Since I "opened up" the restaurant today, and at this hour was the only customer, the staff knew me, so I didn't need a number.

Photo:  The sandwich menu is placed on the wall, behind the order station.  All sandwiches are priced by size, which is really nice.  Note a "BBQ Brisket" sandwich is priced the same as "Ham," - by the size - as brisket is normally twice the price as ham.  The other board lists "Up Grade" for an extra price so you can make your sandwich into a meal if you choose.

Besides the posted menu, the restaurant offers printed menus you can keep, and the menu is listed on the restaurant's website. You can order in person, on the phone or online.  During the hour or so I was at the restaurant, I noted that most orders were take-out.

Photo:  The "Soups" board offers clam chowder and tomato bisque daily, and every day offers a "Soup of the Day." Since today was Thursday, "Cream of Potato" was being served.

Photo:  Talented sandwich chefs, Nancy and Yesi prepare my sandwich.  Like all sandwich restaurants, trays of components are placed within easy reach for the chefs, as during busy hours, time is the essence.  It's only 11:10 in the morning, but 45 minutes, as I was leaving, the line of hungry diners was nearly out the door, and people were sitting around waiting for their orders to be filled.

If you look behind Yesi, you get a peek through the open door into the kitchen.

Photo:  This colorful collage on the dining room wall definitely says "California."

Photo:  Outside, there is a comfortable patio which would have made for fine dining on this mild Thursday morning in early November.  I was simply too lazy to carry my meal outside, so I opted to enjoy my lunch in the comfortable dining room.

Photo:  Meet Nancy, my amazing hostess who brought my lunch to me with a friendly smile.  Along with Yesi, she created my fantastic sandwich.

Photo:  I'm ready to enjoy an amazing lunch of a "Barbecue Brisket" sandwich, along with a "Bread Bowl" of clam chowder.  Thanks to my hostess, Nancy, for taking my photo.

Photo:  From the "Soups" section of the menu, I went for a bread bowl of "New England Clam Chowder," which is perhaps my favorite soup.  Today's "Soup of the Day" was "Cream of Potato," which was tempting, but I simply had to go with the clam chowder.  I opted to enjoy my soup in a "Bread Bowl" as I can't get enough of the amazing sourdough bread served at this fine restaurant.

As per my order of a "Bread Bowl," the soup arrived hollowed-out, bowl of freshly baked sourdough bread, hot out of the kitchen.  As a nice side, the hollowed-out portion was on the side, which made for amazing dipping.

Yes, it was clam chowder in the style of New England, and the chowder was simply delicious.

The chowder began with a thick, creamy broth, just the right consistency.  Like all clam chowder, it had clams, bacon, diced potatoes and seasoning.  It was the perfect balance between the rich, white broth and the juicy clams and other ingredients.

I dipped pieces of the bread into the clam chowder, and then I used a spoon to enjoy the rest.  After I'd enjoyed most of the soup, I tore the bowl into pieces and enjoyed.  This was both delicious and filling.  For many diners, including me, this could make for entire lunch!

The combination of such delicious clam chowder, served in a bowl of some of the best sourdough in Placer County proved to be an unbeatable combination!

Photo:  From the "Build Your Sandwich" section of the menu, I went for the "#17 BBQ Brisket" which is served hot.  I love a delicious sandwich, so I went for the 8" size, so I could bring half of it home with me for dinner.

Like all sandwiches on the menu, the sandwich began with a roll of freshly baked, San Francisco style sourdough bread, fresh and hot from the kitchen.  I ordered all of the options from the "Fill It Up" section of the menu, as I love a full sandwich.

Yesi, the talented chef who created my sandwich first cut the roll in half, length wise and applied "House Sauce" - which is essentially seasoned mayonnaise - to both sides of the roll.  From the bottom of the sandwich, working up, she stacked sliced red onion, sliced shredded lettuce and the "star" of the show... a generous helping of barbecued beef brisket mixed with lots of barbecue sauce.  The sandwich was topped with a slice of melted pepperjack cheese.

One bite into this amazing sandwich was a WOW! moment!  The freshly-baked sourdough roll was simply perfect, as it was baked with a light, golden brown crust with just the right amount of "crunch," while the inside was tender and moist.  The veggies were fresh, flavorful and firm... not soggy like you'll find at lesser sandwich restaurants.

The sandwich included a very generous of barbecued beef brisket, thinly sliced and mixed with tangy barbecue sauce.  The meat was perfectly barbecued, and very moist and tender.  Simply delicious!  The meat was topped with a slice of perfectly melted pepper jack cheese, which was the cheese of my choice.

This sandwich was simply delicious!  The meat-to-bun radio was perfect, the cheese added flavor, and the mixture of fresh veggies balanced out the sandwich.  Amazing!

Photo:  Side view of one of the halves of the sandwich showing all the delicious layers of goodness.  Note the perfect, light golden crust of the bread.  Yummy!

Photo: I'm ready to enjoy my "BBQ Brisket" sandwich, along with my bowl of "New England Clam Chowder."  This was quite a lunch, and after eating half the sandwich and the bowl of chowder, I took the other half of the sandwich home for dinner, as I was stuffed!

Since opening earlier this year, West Coast Sourdough has become a very popular restaurant with Roseville locals, thanks to the delicious soups and sandwiches,  which are based on their famous sourdough bread, which made a simply delicious and hearty lunch.  The bread was crispy and fresh, the clam chowder was rich and flavorful, and the brisket sandwich was simply delicious.

When you're in west Roseville, and you're in the mood for a fantastic lunch, stop by West Coast Sourdough, located on Blue Oaks Blvd., in Roseville.
